When I had my 4th baby I wanted to do something nice. To me every baby is beautiful and should be cherished. So I set out to find the perfect photographer. I wanted someone close of course, but I also wanted someone who took amazing photos. These were moments in time that I wanted to capture forever. Not just anyone could do that job. While searching Google I found "Out Of The Box Photography". While searching her blog I found some amazing photos of adorable newborns. The price seemed right. I knew that this would cost a bit more than the Wal-Mart shots, but let's be honest, you're not going to get these kind of shots from Wal-Mart.
I messaged Jennifer and mad an appointment. I was so excited to take my sweet little man to get his very first ever pictures. ok, well very first professional photos, we all know I had at least 100 in the first 48 hours of him being born. I was hoping that my little man would cooperate and give us some amazing shots. I loaded little man up and brought my 10-year-old daughter along to help with carrying all the many bags you need when your out and about with a newborn.
As soon as I arrived I was greeted by Jennifer. She was Amazing making us feel right at home! She showed us around her studio that was very cute and quaint. It had a vintage farm-house feel. With all the antiques lying around here and there. The room was nice and warm. This was great because the best newborn photos are of your little baby, and nothing else. They are only this size for a few weeks, got to catch it on "film" while you still can.
Jennifer was great about all the normal newborn things. We all know newborns without a diaper is a recipe for disaster and let me tell you we had a few! I swear little man tried to get out his whole weeks meals out while getting pictures taken. Jennifer just laughed and said babies do that, and we cleaned up what we could and moved on. She said that the props could be washed.
Because I was breastfeeding my little man wanted to eat every hour or so. It seemed like he was super hungry. I brought a bottle with some breast milk in it, but he didn't want the bottle. I didn't want it to ruin the shoot so I got my breastfeeding cover out and fed him. Jennifer made me feel so at home that by the end of the shoot I wasn't even using my cover. That's saying a lot since I ALWAYS cover. My little man was happy that he didn't have to hide under a cover, and I was happy that I didn't have to mess with it every 45 mins.
Little man wasn't the easiest baby to work with, but Jennifer took it in stride and comforted him and shhhhed him until he settled again. It took 4 hours to get the shots that she wanted. Now I'm sure that it doesn't always take that long, but I'm glad that Jennifer didn't give up! She kept shooting until she got that perfect shot. She knew that these where moments that we wanted to keep forever and she was going to get them for us, no matter how long it took. I was amazed at how open she was to my suggestions. Not that I made a lot mind you, but the ones I did make she was very open too. She knew that these photos were for me and she wanted me to love them.
Jennifer used a few different back grounds and props to make sure I had a lot to choose from. This made picking the photos I wanted to keep so much harder, but so much more fun too. I loved seeing all the different shots she got of my little man. If you want to feel at home, short of being at home. Out Of The Box photography is the place to call. It's a experience that I will never forget and I have the photos to go along with it. I will always remember my little man, when he was little. When he is 22 and 6 foot something I will have these pictures to remind me how he started. I will remember Jennifer who was apart of that time, and who froze this time in space for me.
If you want to call Jennifer and set up a shoot you can get all the information you need on her blog here. You can also find her on Facebook here. Make sure to friend her on facebook as she sometimes does mini sessions around holidays like Easter or Christmas. These are perfect if you want that personal feeling that you just can't find with the big store photos.
Jennifer is amazing! Call her, for real, call her!
